영어 임용을 준비하면서 문학교재를 들여다봐야곘단 생각이 있어 구매했습니다. 워낙 고전첵이라 해석이 어려운 부분도 있겠지만 오랜 시간동안 대대로 전해오는 귀중한 교훈을 담은 책은 고생을 해서라도 읽는 성취를 맛보고싶네요. 게다가 책이 저렴하게 나와서 소장하기에 좋을 것 같습니다. 호메로스의 오딧세이 안에는 문학적인 소재를 담은 비유 및 소재가 많이 쓰여 영문독해에도 도움이 되리라 생각합니다
호메로스가 남긴 「일리아스」와 「오디세이아」는 고대 그리스군과 트로이군 사이에 벌어졌던 트로이 전쟁을 배경으로 하고 있다. 전작인 「일리아스」가 주로 역사적 사실에 근거하여 트로이 전쟁의 진행 과정을 담고 있다면, 「오디세이아」는 목마 전략으로 트로이 전쟁을 종식시킨 지혜로운 영웅 오디세우스의 방랑과 모험을 다루고 있다.

「일리아스」와 「오디세이아」는 서양 역사와 철학, 문학 등을 이해하기 위한 필독서로 꼽힌다. 그리스 신화에 등장하는 다양한 올림포스 신들과 영웅들이 엮어 내는 장엄한 이야기들은 오랜 세월 동안 수많은 예술 작품들의 주요 소재로 등장하였다. 그리고 극적인 반전과 긴장감으로 읽는 이들의 상상력을 무한히 자극하는 호메로스의 작품들은 많은 예술가들에게 영감을 주었으며, 서양 문학 작품들의 자양분이 되었다.
